Hot Sync Information Updated 12-Dec-2002
Purpose:
Allows you to place a copy of the information on your Palm Handheld on
your computer. Then from this place you can import to WhirlWind Software thru Scan
Organizer.
How to:
The Scanner allows you to eliminate Data Entry on your computer keyboard. Hot
Sync allows you to move the data from your scanner to your computer. The
information is therefore stored in your scanner and when you hot sync it makes a
copy on your computer. The next step is to move this data from the place that it
is now stored on your computer to the WhirlWind Accounting database.
Problems that can arise:
1. When the scanner cannot communicate with the computer.
The Hot Sync software is provided with the scanner and is a third party
software.
Sometimes you will need to reset the scanner. On the back of the scanner is a
reset hole. Take a paper
clip and softly enter it into the reset hole.
Sometimes you will need to reset your computer. Shut it down and restart.
2. When the Import brings in the same data even after you
hot sync.
Make sure that when your scanner is in the process of Hot Syncing that you see
this screen during the process
If you see this screen then we know the link between the scanner and the
computer is working. The next
question is the link between the computer and WhirlWind Software is correctly
setup.
Sometimes the scanner can put the data on the computer in a place that WhirlWind
Software does not
know where to find it. You can find out where WhirlWind Software is looking for
the data from the
Main Menu click on Setup: Company: and on the Button Bar click on
Stores.
This screen will appear
Click on Find and Select the Location that you are Hot Syncing at. You will see
where WhirlWind Software
is looking for the information. It is under Palm Import File. Make sure that
this path and file name is correct.
You can use your computers Find feature to locate the datawelldb.cdb that the
Scanner has placed on your
computer. (Depending on what version of Windows you are using depends on how you
use this feature.)
If your computers finds a datawelldb.cdb file that is dated at your last Hot
Sync then you need to change
the setting 'Palm Import File' to match where the computer says it found
datawelldb.cdb
